It is hard to imaging good backcountry skiing during the month of October in the North Cascades, but that's just what happened on Thursday October 13, 2011. Jerry Peters, Erin Jorgensen and Jeff Ward headed up to the North side of Mount Baker for some early season turns. The weather systems lined up perfectly - a big storm laying down a bunch of new snow, followed by a clear, cold day. Usually early season skiing can be a bit of a chore and the ski quality is nothing compared to mid-winter skiing, but what they ran into on Baker was amazing no matter what time of year. Time to start getting that backcountry ski gear together.....
