I have had the opportunity to spend the last month using a new BD helmet known as the Vector. This featherweight helmet, at an amazing 8.1 oz, is one of the easiest helmets to forget you are wearing that has ever protected my fragile noggin.  As someone who knows enough to recognize the benefits of wearing a helmet in the mountains, but loves the feel of the wind through my hair, I am always looking for that helmet that I can truly forget I have on.  One of the most noticeable things about the helmet is the amount of ventilation that the helmet sports in the back, allowing for good air flow across the top of the head.  Minimizing the sweat factor makes wearing a brain bucket so much more comfortable and BD has done a great job here.  The suspension is super clean and easily adjustable with a a ratcheting lock mechanism.  The whole suspension tucks up into the helmet, making it easier to fit in your pack.  My favorite trick is to pack my lunch bag inside my helmet at the top of my pack, filling that empty space as well as protecting my sandwich or apple from getting crushed in my pack.  The helmet come with the standard headlamp clips  which worked great for our alpine start on Mt Ranier earlier this Spring.  I found almost nothing to complain about with this helmet - a testament in itself for someone who reviews so much gear!  If I could change anything, I might put a slightly lower profile clip on the chin strap, but this is honestly pretty nitpicky as the one there is hardly noticeable.  In all, once again, the folks at BD did a great job with the Vector and it will serve as my go to helmet until there is something even easier to forget about on my head!  Of note for those interested, the Vector will be available later this month from Black Diamond and other retail stores.
