Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route

Here's a quick little video from our last Haute Route of the season.  We had amazing weather and a great group.  The Europeans were complaining of the "worst winter in 40 years" but it didn't stop us from having a blast.  A little bit of corn, a little bit of powder, a ton of sun and even some Italian cappuccinos at the end.  What more do you need on an Alps ski mountaineering adventure?

It is always difficult to leave the North Cascades when the skiing is so good, but it's hard to complain about spending a week at a backcountry ski lodge in British Columbia.  Fortunately ski conditions in the BC interior are often very similar to what we experience around Washington Pass, so we didn't miss a thing.  We had a great group of folks this year and were lucky enough to have good stability with perfect snow in the first part of the week followed by some amazing storm skiing.

Mike and Larry had been planning this trip for over a year.  Plane tickets were purchased, food was organized, reservations made to fly in to the Alaska range, in short, everything was in order - except the weather.  In one of the worst seasons in Alaskan memory, our group got hammered by wet weather which ultimately shut down any chances of rock climbing and allowed us one brief respite in which we escaped the range before the next big system moved in.  Fortunately, we had a cush basecamp which allowed us to still really enjoy ourselves, though it was not the trip either of
