| In an effort to expand his climbing skills,
Steve Smith from Miami, FL signed up for a private ITAR. Steve
got the idea from an Outside magazine article which offered
a suggestion for a series of climbs aimed at making one into
a well rounded competent climber. One of these was the Beckey
Route. To read the Outside article, Click

| We spent day one at Fun Rock covering
all the skills we would safely need to climb Liberty Bell
on the second day. After hiking up on snow right from
the car, we started up the classic Beckey route. Here
Steve follows on the first pitch. |

 |
| NCMG's newest guide, Katherine Bill,
joined us for the day, and is seen here exiting the top
of the chimney on pitch two. |

 |
| Here Steve finishes the last few moves
in the chimney. |
|
| |
 |
| The third pitch has some of the best
climbing of the route. A nice layback corner with great
exposure makes this a highlight of the day. |

 |
| Steve, all smiles as he pulls into the
belay. |
|
| |
 |
| We enjoyed a liesurely lunch on the summit,
in awe of the many peaks surrounding us with the mountains
all to ourselves. |
|
| |
 |
| Two quick rappels brought us back to
our boots and other gear. We descended the gully and made
it back to the car by mid afternoon. |
