Thanks to the hard work of Bryan Burdo and
Scott Johnston there is now a new 11 pitch 5.8 climb on Goat
Wall. Having been on the climb several times helping to clean
it up, I thought I would share a few photos of this future classic.
Here Blue Bradley follows the second
pitch working through a short 5.8 crux.
The entire climb is bolted and is quite
sustained at the 5.6 - 5.8 range.
Following the natural line of the Northwest
Buttress of Goat Wall, there are several short walks between
pitches of 5th class climbing. Here Blue starts up the
3rd pitch after walking past several huge trees.
Scott Johnston leads the 5th pitch of
"Prime Rib".
Midge Cross follows on one of the wildly
exposed yet moderate middle pitches.
Much of the climbing is fairly steep
with ample positive, incut holds.
The 9th pitch traverses a steep face
to reach easier ground before the dramatic finish. Here
Blue concentrates on her footwork on the traverse.
One of the highlights of the climb are
the spectacular views from every belay. Here Blue belays
Larry on the 10th pitch with the upper Methow Valley far
below.
