| |
| Taking advantage of the best ice year in a
long while, Bob and Lorina Davis of Seattle and Allison Crouse
of Michigan got out on the Gate Creek flows which offer a great
teaching spot for beginners to intermediates level ice climbers.
| |
| Lorina boulders aroung on the lowest
flows, getting the hang of swinging her tools. |
| |
| Guide, Scott Johnston belays Lorina
up the grade 2 slab that gives access to second tier of
ice. |
| |
| Lorina almost topping out
on the easy stuff as Allison waits her turn. |
| |
| Scott sets up a top rope anchor on the
grade WI 3 second tier for some practice on steep ice. |
| |
| Bob shows how it is done as he easily
deals with the short vertical step. |
| |
| After everyone had had a few runs at
the lower curtain and was starting to feel more confident,
Scott here moves the anchor up to the second step and
brought Bob, Lorina and Allison up to tackle that final
bit for the day. |
| |
| Everyone got a few more chances
to figue out how these tools work. Here Allison is finessing
her way nicely up the last WI 3 step just below the upper
bowl and final curtains. |
| |
| Bob snapped this shot as
he topped out looking into he upper basin with its larger
and more challenging curtains of ice. Those will have
to wait for another day......... |
