Red Rock canyon is a large Desert climbing area outside of Las Vegas, NV. The area offers an incredibly diverse range of climbing opportunities covering the spectrum from single pitch sport climbing to multi day big walls. NCMG has been offered access to "guest guide" permit from the Bureau of Land Management for the 2010 season through the Northwest Mountain School. We will offer a 10 day climbing trip to the park with dates that take advantage of the desert climate - October. We have found this to be a very pleasant time to climb in the desert with temperatures typically in the 70s - 80s. This at at time when rockclimbing is either impossible or at least very unpleasant in most other parts of the country.

Sport Climbing
s

There are literally hundreds of sport climbs located just a short walk from the loop road through the park. Ranging from 5.5 to 5.13, there are climbs here to please everyone and some moderate crags that are ideal for learning to lead or just having an easy day. Depending on the weather, crags will often be chosen based on their orientation to the sun.

The Black CorridorOne of the more popular sport climbing areas - the Black Corridor. While mostly known for its longer routes, Red Rocks has a large amount of easily accessible sport climbing.

Moderate Routes
s

The rock in Red Rock canyon is a Windgate sandstone. If there was ever rock that felt like it was made to be climbed on, this is it. Holds tend to be large and incut. Red Rocks can probably claim some of the steepest moderate climbs in the country, yet due to the large and bountiful holds, the climbing never gets too difficult. It is not uncommon to pull roofs on 5.7 climbing, on holds that feel like they are right out of the climbing gym. We have listed some of the moderate classics below, though there are many, many more. All of the climbs listed are multipitch climbs ranging from half a day to a long day.

Difficult Routes

As the climbing gets harder, the holds tend to get smaller and often cracks will end into blank faces. Luckily these have been equipped with bolts that allow for some amazing passages up some very improbable lines. Black Velvet wall is host to one of the highest concentration of high quality difficult routes. Some are moderate, though really long (Epinephrine), while others are long, hard and sustained. Below are a few examples.
