Lindsey Woolsey from Okanogan (or as the cool people like to call it "The Nog") met up with Jeff and NCMG office manager Hayley for a 3-day trip into Boston Basin for some early Fall alpine climbing.

After a nice hike up the climbers' trail the team made camp at the lower campsite.  They then headed out to do some training on a nearby snow slope.  They worked on some moderate snow climbing techniques and self-arrest.  Here Lindsey and Hayley enjoy the afternoon light and the barefoot bonus of a late season, dry camp.

After an alpine start the next morning, the group climbed up the Quien Sabe Glacier on their way to the summit of Sahale.  Here they are being hit by the first morning sun near the top of the glacier.

Once off the glacier the climbing consists of moderate 3rd and 4th class rock with some impressive exposure.  Here Lindsey and Hayley pose for their summit shot.

On the way down the ladies had a chance to practice their "au cheval" technique on the knife-edge ridge.

Climbing into a crevasse

On the way down the group decided to add a little excitement by lowering down into one of the big crevasses.  Here Lindsey is being lowered down by Jeff.  Is that a look of excitement or fear?

It must have been a look of excitement because Lindsey looks pretty happy hanging over the abyss.

Hayley got in on the action as well.  These two climbers earned themselves the nickname the "pointer sisters" because they just could not stop pointing out all the amazing sites.  Needless to say there was a lot of pointing going on during the "crevasse exploration".

Dinner at Camp in Boston Basin, North Cascades Mountain Guides

After some fun in the crevasse and some more self-arrest practice the group headed back to camp for another enjoyable dinner.  That night the weather changed dramatically.  Heavy rains and strong winds hit the tent all night long.  The group had hoped to spend the next day climbing Sharkfin Tower but that would have to wait until the next trip.  In the morning they packed up camp early and headed to town for a well-deserved hot meal and conversations about the next big adventure.....
